Volunteer

Our resale/thrift store is run by a small paid staff and a host of faithful volunteers.

Repurposed store volunteers help sort and price donations, maintain orderly displays, clean, assist customers and help keep our book and media section in good order. Some volunteers also help with handyman jobs at the store; other volunteers participate in our furniture donation pickups each month. There are a variety of schedules and jobs available.

VOLUNTEERING MAY BE A WEEKLY OR MONTHLY COMMITMENT. FOR VOLUNTEERS WHO WORK 4+ HOURS EACH MONTH, WE OFFER A GENEROUS VOLUNTEER DISCOUNT.

OUR BIGGEST SHIFT NEEDS ARE:

Evening: Fridays & Saturdays

If you have questions, please email our Volunteer Coordinator at:

volunteer@livinginliberty.org

Please note, due to a potential conflict of interest, we do not allow resellers to volunteer at this time.

We are happy to have you any time you can help!

THE FOLLOWING GUIDANCE HELPS US STEWARD OUR RESOURCES WELL AND MAXIMIZE THE VALUE OF YOUR DONATIONS

01.
Donations are accepted inside the front lobby of our store from 12 noon - 5 PM on Monday-Tuesday and Thursday-Saturday.

02.
No donations accepted on Wednesdays.

03.
Please do not leave items outside after donation hours due to potential damage from weather or pests.

04.

Please do not donate clothing that has stains, rips or pilling as well as household items that are dirty or damaged. We are a small non-profit organization staffed mostly by volunteers and we have limited space to process donations. Our trash expenses are reduced when you only donate items that customers want to purchase.

05.
For in-store furniture donations, please call the store ahead of time to check if we are able to accept your piece. If your furniture has not been pre-approved, please have a manager look it over before bringing it into the store.

Thank you for your generous donations to support our mission of helping women leave a life of sex trafficking. We need your gently-used or like-new items of home goods, furniture, clothing, toys, and more.

01.

Providing Critical Funding for Living in Liberty

At the heart of Repurposed is our commitment to financially sustain the broader mission of Living in Liberty. Every purchase made in our store directly contributes to the resources needed to operate our safe homes, run street outreach programs, and support women rebuilding their lives. Your dollars don't just buy used goods—they fund hope, healing, and long-term transformation.

02.

Raising Awareness About Human Trafficking

Human trafficking is often a hidden crisis—even in our own communities. Repurposed serves as both a storefront and a conversation starter, educating shoppers, volunteers, and donors about the harsh realities of trafficking in Pittsburgh and around the world. Through signs, events, outreach, and daily interactions, we strive to illuminate the darkness and bring this issue into the light so more lives can be saved.

04.

Creating Job Training and Employment Opportunities

Repurposed is more than a thrift store—it’s a training ground for women looking to restart their lives. We provide hands-on job experience in a supportive, judgment-free environment where women can rebuild confidence, develop valuable work habits, and gain retail and customer service skills. This on-site training can lead to future employment, whether within Repurposed or in the broader job market, offering a true path toward economic independence.

05.

Supporting Like-Minded Organizations Through Sozo Boutique

In addition to supporting Living in Liberty, we proudly partner with and uplift other organizations fighting human trafficking and exploitation through the sale of Sozo Boutique items. These handcrafted goods are ethically sourced and created by survivors or at-risk individuals from around the world. When you purchase from Sozo, you’re investing in global freedom, providing sustainable income for survivors, and fueling change beyond our local community.

The Repurposed Store's Five-Fold Mission Is:

Learn more about Human Trafficking

Donations to the store may also be distributed by Living in Liberty’s street outreach team or may help to provide our safe home residents with necessities when they come to live with us or are ready to be established on their own. Additionally, safe home residents also have the opportunity to gain valuable job skills and professional training by working at the store during their time with us, and may continue to find employment at Repurposed after they complete their program at the home.
